Amid the chaos, the ex-Green Beret joins the preparatory compound; love grows, truths are born, and community unites. Neal McDonough agreed to star in this project because he liked Angel Studios and really wanted to play a non-villain role. Following his appearance as the benefactor of The Shift – O Deslocamento (2023), McDonough entered into an agreement with Angel Studios to submit some of his projects to the company for optional release if they were approved by the creators of the Angel Guild. It was his first project to be approved for funding and release. In 2023, he appeared in Illuminate – Angel Studios (2023). Angel Studios films are definitely improving in terms of acting, writing and overall quality of films. Homestead takes a very scary subject and starts us on the day of the incident to show how quickly things can fall apart. There is little to no backstory on the characters or the state of the world. What you can learn about the characters from the conversations. This can be both good and bad – good in them for the fast-paced plot, bad because you’re not invested in them as a person. Some of the archetypes used are a bit “one note”. Initially, I was outraged by the usual portrayal and stiffness of veteran types. But it’s definitely part of a character arc to show that people can and will change through experience, so it really works and I’m looking forward to deeper development as the next series progresses. It definitely sticks to the redemption-by-faith arc and has some very obvious allegories (such as Jesus using bread and fish to feed the multitudes), but I didn’t find it over-the-top, forced, or unrealistic. It’s a flawed movie in some ways, but what movie isn’t? The arguments have dialogue that definitely could have been written better. The direction could have been more accurate. The effects of the attacks could have been shown a bit better. But overall it was still a good movie and we all enjoyed it.
