James Gunn had released “CREATURE COMMANDOS” before taking over DC
It follows a group of military superhumans consisting of a human leader, a werewolf, a vampire, a Frankenstein’s monster, and a gorgon. Gunn greenlit the project when he became CEO of DC Studios. Writer and series creator James Gunn appears in the opening credits with a laptop writing the script. .

Appeared in AniMate’s Crazy Comic: The Return of the King (of the Hill) (2023). What an entrance to the new system from D.C. Studios. This first installment and introduction to the new DC Universe is a promising and welcome sight.
But Creature Commandos is a return to form for quality animation
The story takes care of the characters and the animation is top-notch. Speaking of animation, the new “Tomorrow-verse” animation looked very cheap and flat, with no animation style or storytelling. Great DC AU stories like “Under the Red Hood”, “Justice League: Dark” and “Superman: Doomsday” set the standard for quality comic book animation. I collected all the animated films from that era and was not interested in the Tomorrow-verse due to the lazy writing and lazy animation art.
The art style is fun, vibrant and well drawn
I’m already interested in the characters and the story is interesting. James Gunn is starting this universe off right and making his next projects highly anticipated. The new Superman movie is definitely on my must-watch list. Coming back to the show, it’s only 2 episodes, but the anticipation and connection to the characters is there.
